Jose has always been a hands-on fixer. His fascination as a young child in Chile working on his father’s car compelled him to begin supporting his neighbor’s care service station, where he spent a few days a week doing basic mechanical jobs. He was determined to be a mechanic when he grew up. That is, until his family got their first computer.
The start of Jose’s journey started with an Acer computer in 1998. Sure it was a 486 CPU with only 4MB of RAM and 512 on disk. But it was a gateway to the Internet, and the first step towards Jose’s further interests in robotics, integrated circuits, transistors, and breadboards. However, it was after successfully building a sequential set of LEDs with another component light set that Jose knew that his future would be working with computers, electronics, or internet technologies.
Favorite Sport: Rugby. “Whether I am playing, coaching, refereeing, or watching a game, I am definitely in a happy place when I’m near the field.”
Along this journey, Jose’s passion to ‘fix” has taken him on some unique adventures. For many years, Jose focused this passion on the environment, working for Greenpeace on campaigns in Chile and Europe, where (and we kid you not) at one point Jose was hanging from bridges with fellow activists holding a banner against nuclear pollution.
It was that passion for technology and his natural ability to fix problems that Steadfast saw in Jose when we hired him as a Support Manager to work closely with our customers and partners.
Favorite Spot: The Library. “I love to read and study. I am amazed by the libraries here in the U.S. and the endless selection of books that I never had access to in Chile.”
At the end of the day, Jose's real passion is his family. While he still enjoys the adventures of hiking or traveling to places like Valdivia Chile (a quaint city in Southern Chile with delicious cuisine and friendly people), he prefers the simple moments of being at home and enjoying a great meal with his family.
Favorite Chicago Destination: The Field Museum. “My five year old son wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up, so we refer to “Maximo” the Titanosaur and “Sue” the T-rex as if they are members of our family!”
