We have been working on our new backup systems for the past several months and we are finally nearing the point of releasing them to the general public. Final preparations are being made and the last of the existing backup customers are being moved to the new system as I type this. This service should be live Monday, assuming we don't run into any issues between now and then.
The main changes with the new service are the option for additional disk space, with bulk discounts, and overall lower pricing. We can offer large disk space packages because of unique configuration, which basically clusters together many different storage arrays, and it is that configuration that also allows us to offer the lower pricing, as it gives us much greater flexibility on our end. I have already updated the plans and information on our web site, so look at the new backup pricing.
I do have a couple notes to add as well.
1) All existing backup accounts will be changed to the new pricing as soon as the transfer is complete. There is no need to contact us to get that changed.
2) We are no longer using H-Sphere to manage backup accounts. This gives us a much cleaner and more flexible configuration. Billing will be managed via our new billing/management system, Ubersmith, and you will get access to a simple control panel which will allow you to see how much space you're using, how much space you're allocated, etc.
3) We will likely be offering a special on Web Hosting Talk offering one free month of backup service, so keep an eye on the offers section over the next several days to see how you can take advantage of that offer.
4) All Silver Management dedicated server accounts will likely get 10GB of backup space included, at no charge, while Gold Management accounts will be upgraded to 50GB of free backup space. This change is not definite, as we are still working out the details, but it is looking pretty likely.
