I know I haven't posted here for awhile, but don't worry, things have still been going on behind the scenes as we continue to try to make things better here a Steadfast Networks.
First of all, we are almost done upgrading our VPS servers. We almost doubled the RAM and improved the drive arrays on all the systems, while some also got CPU upgrades. With the servers we have migrated over completely already the difference is night and day. Not to say our service before was bad, but I am aware that there were periods of disk IO issues which caused some sluggishness, etc. Those days are now a thing of the past. Even fully loaded systems are rarely going over a load average of 1 and the disk IO delay is non-existent.
Next, we are currently working on some network changes, including a massive improvement in network capacity. Right now, the plan is to convert the 3x GigE lines we have to each PCCW and TeliaSonera into 10 GigE lines. In addition, we are planning to add a GigE to Savvis. Not only are we just adding capacity, but we are adding carriers as well. Right now we are about to light a connection to GameRail, which is a gamer specific network, currently still in beta testing, and then in the next couple months we will be adding MCI/Verizon Business to our mix as well. before people start questioning whether that is going to happen or not, the contract is signed, so if it doesn't happen it's not our fault. Overall, these changes would give us nearly 30 Gbit/sec of capacity.
Finally, we are looking to finally put the DDoS protection live after extensive testing. There should be an announcement going out to existing dedicated server and colocation customers about that tonight or tomorrow. By default, all IP's will be protected, but if you are worried about the DDoS equipment adding unnecessary latency or blocking legitimate traffic we can whitelist your IP, you would just need to contact our support or network operations departments to get that done. Right now, we are planning to take the DDoS protection live May 1.
