We're really happy to see Chicago got a bike share program! The Divvy bike share program is a great program that just launched a couple weeks ago and already has thousands registered users. The plan is to put 4000 bikes in 400 stations around the city and to then provide (for just a $75 annual membership) an unlimited number of free 30 minute bike rides (bikes can be dropped off at any station). These bikes are intended to ease commutting by encouraging people to ride a bike instead of driving and allowing people easier access to the mass transit system, as they have been putting bike stations near many of the "L" stops. If you need the bike for more than 30 minutes there is a fee schedule for additional time as well or if you want to just try things out you can just go right to a station and pay for a $7 daily pass.
This is great for both our staff and customers, as there is a station less than one block from our 350 E Cermak facility at McCormick Place, and there is a planned station bassically right next to our 725 S Wells facility (a Polk and Wells station is planned to be up before the end of August). This gives people another option for commuting to work, visiting our data center facilities, or running errands (or grabbing a bite to eat) from these facilities, all for a low annual membership fee. As a company, we're even taking an additional step, by sponsoring memberships for our employees, allowing them to have a Divvy membership for only $30 a year, instead of $75 a year!
We hope that everyone in Chicago take a serious look at the Divvy bike share program. It is great in so many ways, helping to reduce congestion, reducing pollution, getting people exercise, and just allowing people to get out of their cars and explore this great city while being extremely affordable!
